Two Ways to See It
Scout Lens
A scout would identify a poacher by their exceptional off-ball movement within the penalty area, anticipation of rebounds, and clinical one-touch finishing, often observing a preference for staying high up the pitch rather than dropping deep to link play. They look for players who consistently find themselves in goal-scoring positions.
Player Lens
From a player's perspective, being a poacher means constantly battling defenders for a yard of space, timing runs to perfection to exploit gaps, and having an unwavering focus on the goal, always ready to react quicker than anyone else to a deflection or pass. It's about instinct and seizing the moment.
