Match Understanding
Reading Formations Live
A Ballify concept guide — learn what it is, then spot it live.
What Is It?
In Simple Terms
Why Top Teams Use It
Two Ways to See It
Coach Lens
From the touchline, a coach constantly scans player relationships, defensive lines, and midfield compactness to ensure tactical instructions are being followed or to identify patterns for immediate in-game adjustments. They might spot a change from a 4-3-3 to a 4-4-2 in possession and plan a counter-move.
Player Lens
On the pitch, a player reads the formation to understand their own role within the team's shape, identify passing lanes to exploit, or anticipate an opponent's movements based on their defensive or attacking structure. They adjust their movement or decision-making based on these real-time observations.
