Two Ways to See It
Data Lens
From a data perspective, GCAs assign credit to the two actions immediately before a goal, whether it's a live-ball pass, a dead-ball pass, a dribble, a shot, or a foul drawn. This metric helps analysts identify players who consistently contribute to goal-scoring situations without necessarily registering a traditional assist.
Scout Lens
A scout observes GCA-type actions as moments of decisive influence, noticing players who consistently make the 'pre-assist' pass, carry the ball into dangerous areas, or force defensive errors that directly lead to goals. It highlights a player's ability to unlock defenses and create opportunities even when not delivering the final ball.
